In May 2021, Kestas and his partner Irina came to Spain in search of a future home. However, the initial experience wasn’t very pleasant.
“The original Agent that we were dealing, was a nice person, that was not the problem. However, prior to coming to Spain, we have contacted the agent with the list of properties that we have found ourselves, on a few Spanish property sites” said Kestas. “Instead of showing us those properties, the agent decided that he/she knows better, and started to show us properties that we were completely drawn away from it”.
He elaborates on his story “there was no preparation, some houses were just horrible, absolutely disgusting. Coming from construction and renovation background, even I was terrified of some of them”.

“Eventually the agent showed us the house, and we liked it” continued Kestas. “The agent recommended us a solicitor. The plan was he would review all the documents and confirm to us, that everything is ok and documents are in order. Within a day or so, the solicitor gave us a green light and we have paid the deposit. A few weeks passed. When we inquired about the property, we were told that the owner has passed away, and the only thing is left, was to sort out the inheritance. We were patiently waiting. And then 6-7 months, yes months, later we received a message from the solicitor that there is something wrong with the house, and he is advising us against buying this property. So, 8 months from initial contact, we were back to square one. We contacted our agent, asking her to assist us once again. Once again, the agent showed us houses, that you just wanted to run away from it. One of the houses, we called it a dollhouse, was so scary, that you could organize Halloween horror parties.”
